Even if you're not going to do the job yourself, it is highly recommended that you understand what is involved, so at least you can find out whether the job is likely to be done correctly, and how much the parts needed should cost.

Read on for detailed UK price comparisons (March 2005) Nothing scientiic, just an extract of what we talk about on the 928uk mail list. Our own explanation of Cam Belts and Water pumps.

Prices snapshot

Those parts prices are a joke. Call Bert at Berlyn or check his website for more realistic prices. Ask them if their labour charge will be the same if you supply the parts. Paul

I'm sure the last time I bought a belt it was less than £30 for a "Porsche" one from ECP. I would have also expected to see a tensioner rebuild kit in the list. Smiffy

The high score goes to my local OPC in Tonbridge who quoted £1085.70 including VAT with warning that other parts may need to be changed when it was stripped

Camtune quoted :-

Water pump £178 plus VAT
Cambelt £98+ VAT
Labour £348 + VAT
New tensioner roller (if required) £70 - fitted for free
Total (including tensioner) £694 + VAT ( or £815.45 inc VAT)

JZ Machtech quoted £630.27 + VAT (or 740.57 inc VAT) - no tensioner mentioned Stuart
