Having talked to some of the South West mob I am getting together
support for a track day next year.
It will be Castle Coombe in Wiltshire and I will arrange a date probably
in May 2005 when the weather is/ should be good(!). I will, however,
need to book the circuit early September to ensure we get the date
required,
The way this works is that the days rate is based on the number of cars
on the track at any given time, with all the marshalling costs and
facilities being made available within the rate.
Castle Coombe is very well organised and run and Porsche club GB do many
days there.
Having done the maths the ideal for us will be to have 6 cars at a time,
and to keep the cost down to an acceptable level we need 40 cars. That
would mean that you would have an approx 10 min session every hour and a
bit excluding lunch. Having been along to watch the last PCGB session 10
mins is all you want to do at any given time 'cos as well as being a
real buzz, it is very knackering.
It would be a blast to have a 928 only day, but realistically it will be
very difficult to get 40 odd 928 people to commit to anything and keep
to it, so it will be to 928.org first and then to others (maybe the DDK
early 911 boys would be interested)
Dates to be confirmed (as long as we can have some serious commitment)
but would be mid week late May as it stands - this date can be moved if
it suits, but weekend bookings are much more difficult due to Castle
Coobe's own schedule and race events, and the cost goes up.
Cost, based on 40 ish cars would be £120-£140 (I am not intending to
make any profit out of this incidentally)
What I need first off is a realistic indication of those who are
genuinely interested, and prepared to fork out £120ish by the end of the
year - I will need to collect money early so that anyone dropping out
at the last minute does not lead to others having to foot the bill. This
money will be put in a (high! Interest) account and any balance will be
either shared out or spent on sarnies
If someone drops out and a replacement can be found, then great,
otherwise the money is lost. Hard but fair, and totally up front
For all those who are wary about damaging their pride and joy, or who
are nervous about looking like a wuss, don't. Drive at your own pace and
build up to whatever speed you feel comfortable with. No-one will laugh,
and there will be some track day novices feeling their way round for the
first time. I am one of them, but I am dying to give it some without
constantly looking over my shoulder for plod with a laser gun, or some
prat in a Fiesta wanting a race
So, it's over to you lot. Money where mouth is, and lets give these
performance cars a proper workout, they deserve it and so do you.
