Brendan,

Yes , the low fluid level in the g/box will be causing your problems top it
back up, engine running after working it through the gears in sequence
ending up back in park. take it for a drive then check levels again. I have
come across cars where low levels can cause the remaining fluid to overheat
and be thrown out causing the puddle as you have restoring the level should
solve the problem , but look carefully for any leaks particulary around the
oil pan and fluid reservoir and also the feed/return lines from the cooler.

Regards,

Paul Anderson

Subject: [928uk] oil leak

Whilst moving the car out of the garage i noticed a large pool of red oil at
the rear of the car. I decided it wouldn't be a good idea to drive the car
so i drove back in. Whilst driving the car it behaved most oddly, in reverse
it was like i had my foot on and off the accelerator(cars an auto) though it
wasn't. Normally it creeps slowly in D/R as you would expect from an auto.

Assuming that the red oil is from the transmission could this sypthom of
surging be typical of low oil in the transmission?

i estimate that between 1/2 and a pint has leaked out. I understand that it
is 1/2 a pint between max and min on the fluid bottle.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Brendan
