[928uk] Decoding the VIN

Interesting.  I have 927  921 on the label in my 1995 GTS.  When I
contacted Porsche Cars Great Britain a few years ago they told me that
this meant it was a 928 GTS auto ??

I'm beginning to think that 927 actually means a RHD 928.  If you look
at all the part numbers for parts that are different for LHD/RHD models,
the numbers for LHD models all start 928. and the numbers for RHD models
all start 927.

That would leave in question what the 921 means :^(

Other info I have gathered for my car which you can apply to your own:

Engine Code: M2850-81Snnnnn
M = Motor
28 = 928
50 = engine series (for a manual GTS this would be 49)
8 = 8 cylinders (?)
1 = ?
S = year of manufacture (S = 95)
nnnnn = individual serial number (the GTS manuals started at 00501 and
autos started at 50501)

The label in the rear of my car only shows M2850-81S.  The full number
is stamped on the engine block.

Transmission Code: A2818-nnnnnnn
A = auto (manual would be G)
28 = 928
18 = transmission series (for a manual GTS this would be 57)
nnnnnnn = individual serial number (for the GTS they start from 3002001)
Some believe that the first digit means 3 = PSD (0 = no diff, 1 =
standard diff, 2 = LSD)
For models before the GTS the second digit was a letter which denoted
model year

Again, the label in the rear only shows A2818-30 and I've not checked
the gearbox to see what is stamped on it.

  Oh dear, it's just getting more complicated.  I've just gone back and
checked the label in the boot, and got more confused.  I have the
chassis number listed as WPO ZZZ 92zFS841731 (good, found the missing
WPO ZZZ!)
