Clive,

Thanks very much for this, I'll give it a go tomorrow. Just as well I
stopped what I was doing I was trying to prise it off.

Cheers

Steve

Steve,

Regarding the 'Pirtle' tips which John copied for you - if it helps, when
looking into the driver's door mirror face, the plastic locking ring must be
rotated anti-clockwise to unlock, and clockwise to lock.

This means that, with a screwdriver inserted through the hole under the
mirror, and its blade engaged in one of the slots in the ring, the
screwdriver handle should be moved to the left to unlock the ring. The
mirror body acts as a pivot for the screwdriver shaft, and the tip of the
blade therefore turns right, thus rotating the locking ring in an
anti-clockwise direction. You may have to do this more than once, as there
are several slots in the locking ring and it may be necessary to take
another 'bite' as another slot presents itself.

I've only had the driver's side out, and I'd be interested if anyone knows
whether the passenger side locking ring needs to be rotated in the same
direction, or if it is a 'mirror image' (sorry!) of the driver's side.

There is also a small locking pin located below the ring, which rides up an
incline before dropping into a slot, presumably to provide a bit of security
by preventing the locking ring rotating under vibration. You may need to
lever the mirror glass up vertically as you rotate the locking ring in order
to help the pin disengage.

Hi all,

I have a faulty drivers mirror. The electric adjuster will move the mirror
backwards and forwards, but not left to right. I can hear the motor in
operation for all directions. Can someone tell me how to get the glass off
so I can take a look at what might be loose/disconnected back there.

I did have a go at it yesterday but without success and gave up before I
broke something.

Thanks in advance

Steve

Steve,

This is what I have copied from Pirtle's 928 tips listing-----------------
but the problem may be the mirror switch itself.

"Shine a flashlight up the hole in the bottom of your mirror and you'll see
that there's a piece of plastic with slots in it. This is actually the
bottom part of a ring that goes around the back of the mirror glass,
which, when rotated 5 degrees or so, will release the glass. Once you see
what it looks like, stick a small slotted screwdriver into the hole into
one of the slots and try to shift the ring one direction or the other
(apply force upward to keep screwdriver in one of the slots and then move
it sideways to shift the ring).

This is *much* easier to understand once you get the mirror glass out and
see the locking ring on the back of it. "
