[928uk] Help - trickle charging query

The only guaranteed safe way to jump start is from a battery not connected
to another running car. If you do it from a running car, the more revs the
other car is doing, the more likely you are to damage your electronics.
Another alternative is to get protection built into your jump leads. I have
a device fitted to my jump leads which was recommended by someone on one of
the lists, but I can't remember what its called, and I can't look at it
because I'm on the other side of the world to it.
On trickle chargers. A trickle charger can do damage if you leave it
connected too long. You need a battery conditioner or maintainer that is
designed to be left permanently connected. If in doubt, read the
instructions before you buy. If it doesn't say that its safe for all vehicle
electronics, to be connected while the battery is connected to the car, and
left indefinitely, don't buy it. If it has any clever features to restore
dead batteries, don't buy it. Carcoon is often recommended, I have an Oxford
Oximiser. I believe these are similar, and safe.

Why is this so, and how can we jump start a 928 safely.
I jump started mine when it had a flat battery after leaving the
interior lights on, and had no problems.
