Sitting down at my desk this evening with a Gin & Tonic and a bowl of
Bombay Mix (well who really wants to watch Portugal play Greece), I was
skimming through a freebie magazine from Carole Nash Insurance which had
been thrust into my hand at the Goodwood Festival Of Speed.

In it was an article by TV motoring journalist Richard Hammond (Top
Gear) who had been asked to suggest 3 modern cars that will make
classics of the future. A bit in the text made me do a double-take.
Selected parts of the text follow.

"I've been asked to suggest three future classics. ..... Difficult
though it is, on Top Gear we have a set of rules that we apply to a car
to try and determine whether it might make the grade as a classic. A
car must qualify as two or more of three criteria; rare, beautiful or
interesting. So, armed with those rules and a spot of guesswork, we can
have a go at it."

"Lineage, heritage and pedigree are qualities that can help anything
become revered as a classic, from a car to a table lamp. Some marques
hold a particular place in our hearts and it is from those marques that
many classic cars come. Good breeding is what we're talking about here.
It's what enables some carmakers to churn out generation after
generation of classics. Take Porsche, for example, the 356 of the 60s,
the Carrerra RS of the 70s, the 928 of the 80s and the 968 ClubSport of
the 90s. All classics."

Well, there we have it. The 928 - pedigree, good breeding and a classic
:^)

George.
