Possibly a depressing thought - but the nutters that bought the cars then -
already had mansions - and now have even bigger ones !
We can only aspire..

A thought, but not really on subject.......If person that paid £53,490 for
your car in 1988 had purchased a house instead the value today could be
worth just under £500,000........And there would be the £40,000 depreciation
to account for as well!
Are we not lucky that these nutters who purchased our cars could not see the
future. They may have seemed expensive at the time....and how! They were and
are indeed a luxury.............every time you see a 928,you will be able to
say'there goes some silly sod's mansion!' What staggers me is how Porsche
kept the car 'exclusive' while selling hundreds per year to unsuspecting
wealthy chaps that thought that they were buying something special and RARE;
I suppose that is the fate of the aspirational car buyer, but if you really
want a fright just try the exercise with a Ferrari......they do not even get
a decent car for the money!

Iain,
Yep, the S4 on the TIPEC stand is my car.
The invoice price when it was new in April 1988 was £ 53,490, as Phil
correctly points out, however, rather than 2k on the clock, its actually
coming up to 142k.
I know your comments on the old girl are shared by many people because
it won the Visitors Favourite Award at this years Sussex PCGB annual
concourse - and for the third year running.
As Billy thought, my car is not for sale and the main reason is I can't
think of a comparable car for a similar value that I would want to get
in.
Any thoughts anyone.
