Yes Darren, I think it was r12 - I had mine re-gassed two years ago and the mobile AC geezer at JM autos tested the system and then stuck in R24 - which will work but not as well. However we don't live in Southern California so it's done the trick so far. 

And for those nostalgia monkeys out there James at JM paid the bill for all the AC stuff - the good old days....
