Perhaps I have been too quick to dismiss the auto. It has a number of things going for it such as 

1. Ease of city driving
2. Availability 
3. Price.

I would be after an S4 if I were to go for an auto as I prefer the looks to the earlier cars.

I'll probably go and have a loo at the S4 in autotrader. Its a car that was also advertised last year. It looks expensive when compared to similar age and mileage autos but is probably worth a look. My budget is £6500.

Martin,
Have you looked in auto trader? There is a manual 928 for sale in the local
area. Of course I don't know your budget, so you may have seen this already
and ruled it out.
I live in Falkirk and have an auto if you want to try one out; you never
know you may like it.

Hello folks,

O.K. I know I'm likely to a somewhat biased response to this sort of
question on this forum but here goes anyway.

In my search for a manual 928 I have noticed that the they tend to be more
expensive than cars with automatics 'boxes. Manual cars are also quite rare.
So I started thinking about a 911 instead. All the 911's in my price range
will have manual gearboxes. I have tried to come round to the idea of an
auto but just can't. My previous cars include.

Caterham se7en
Westfield SEiW (2.0 litre zetec with twin 45's)
Peugeot 205 GTi
Mini Cooper
Nissan 300 ZX Twin Turbo (Manual !!)

The idea of buying a 928 still appeals as it would be my only car. (although
I'll be keeping the motorbike!) Do any of you have experience with 911's
What are they like to drive and to run?

Any and all advice welcome (biased or not !!)
