You should have no problem - some people prefer to put the injectors in
the rail first. I don't. The injector will push into the manifold up to
a shoulder as you have found. When the rail goes on (using a bit of
silicon or vaseline) just start at on end and lower it onto each
injector in turn, the 'o'ring should just slide into the pocket in the
rail, just past the relief in the bottom of the pocket, and it will seal
fine if your 'o' rings are good. Leaks are usually due to lack of lube
and the 'o' ring distorts.
The little clips just slide in and hold the rail to the injector - if
the rail nuts were loose, the clips will stop the rail jumping off the
top of the injectors.
Don't worry!
You are right inasmuch as the manifold is not the easiest component to
remove and replace, a lot of care is needed to get it right. Did you
have the injectors cleaned and tested on an ASNU unit? Worthwhile.

>P.S. The inlet manifold is a SOB - if it works leave it alone !
