Checking the throttle switch is easy. With the engine off get someone to
depress the throttle slightly, with your head above the back of the
engine you should hear the microswitch click just as the pedal moves
from its rest position (it's and idle switch)
Even if it clicks it may still be faulty, but the actual contact can be
checked with a meter by taking off the LH plug in the footwell and
checking between terminals 2 and 5.
My car initially would not idle evenly and cut out occasionally, which
eventually turned out to be a slightly dodgy contact between the engine
water temp sensor and the plug - the sender has two outputs and feeds
both computers. A variable signal between them confuses the system.
Would not hurt to just pull off the connector and replace it (self
cleaning wiper!) just to be sure, from memory it is the brown one on the
right front of the engine
