[928uk] A quick one at dawn

Hi All
4.30am is a bitch of a time to get out of bed, but the upside is clear
roads.
a 250 mile round trip and I could do it all again, even though the Brit
weather was at its unpredictable finest - rain, hail, frogs, you name it
but the car did not miss a beat, or swap ends!

Part of the day was a job up at the Jaguar engine testing division Nr
Coventry, and whilst I was working in the plant room I found a reject V8
crankcase amongst the stuff scattered around (it's like a sweety factory
to an engineer). It bore an uncanny resemblance, in layout, to the 928
lump inasmuch as it is a two piece casting, split along the crankpin
centreline. This layout gives excellent rigidity to the main bearing
straps, and I have only come across it occasionally (928 and 911 for
two). I wonder how many others use this method, and whether it was
nicked from Porsche in the first place.
Anyone have any ideas?
Richard
