Having owned a British car powered by an American V8, not a Jensen, but
similar motor, there is a lot to be said for lots of cheap grunt and easy
ownership over highly expensive sophisticated German motors from Stuttgart.
Although I would not replace my car's motor with a 5 or 5.7l Chevy all alloy
32V unit, it does make economic sense if you live in the USA in particular.
The cheapest part of a V8 Bristol car happens to be the motor and gearbox.
A complete 350bhp Chrysler 6.3litre motor (long) brand new for $3000 plus
shipping and tax, straight from any major auto shop on the East Coast, about
?4k landed in Blighty. Hardly worth thinking about a rebuild unless you
want more HP or special treatment. It's not such a crazy idea, unlike
stuffing the same engine in the arse end of a 911! It may be one of the
few ways to keep older and less desirable 928s on the road. At least it
will make well-kept original cars even more valuable! As the F1 guys now
say (every other sentence), it's the "package" and how well it all works as
one. The Chev vs Porsche V8 debate is about cost/convenience versus
purity/originality not the delivery of a particular "package outcome" or
specific mechanical benefit. Que sera sera!
