Hi all,
Good news and bad news.
First the good......
At the weekend my project car moved under it's own steam for the first time
in over 2 years!!!!
I took it for a scenic ride around my crescent - Did a 3 point turn and
returned to the garage.
It started first/second time from cold and hot and I adjusted the tickover
too. It had a bit of a flat spot when I touched the throttle, but only a bit
and revved up o.k. after that. I put that down to the fact that I had been
fiddling with the mixture and that I'd only set the timing by ear and not
used a strobe.
So now the bad.....
I put the car back in the garage and started to try and get her running as
sweetly as possible - I didn;t think this would be too hard seeing as I was
almost there..... how wrong I could be.
I took the vaccums off the dizzy and my daughter held the car at 3k while I
put the strobe on the pulley wheel ..... Now I was expecting the timing to
be out a little, but there was no sign of the timing mark - ANYWHERE!!!!
really bizzare...... I moved the dizzy right over and the timing mark just
came into sight - but still miles off. I removed the dizzy and moved the
rotor arm to bring the adjustment closer.
Now the car is a pin to start, but I got it going and after doing this again
got the timing mark to be crack on. Jsut one problem now. The car is
impossible to start. I had it running once and then it wouldn;t idle at all
and ran like it was only firing on 4 cylinders and was running so rich it
was stinking my eyes.
I've been ill all weekend so I decided to knock it on the head there.
The only thing I can think of is that in the past someone has put the red
belt thing with the timing marks on, back on the car in the wrong place!!!
Does anyone know if this is possible?
The timing marks are somehitn like 1|0 T|D 2|6
Also, can I double check which timing mark I'm supposed to be using - I was
under the impresion it whould read 26 @ 3k rpm with all vaccums removed from
the dizzy?
I don;t know I'm at a loss at the momment.
One last thing - on the right hand side (as you are looking into the engine
bay) of the intake plenum between the back 2 pipes there is what looks like
an oil vapur return line. Can anyone confirm this as one eld of this line
appears to go nowhere and is sucking like hell.
Anyone - any ideas?
Just for infor I've replced (or has been replaced) the following
Cap
Leads
Rotor
Plugs
Injectors
Injector seals
Starter motor
ALL Vaccum pipes
intake gaskets
Air/oil filters
WUR
Cheers,
JC
