I think you are right. As wheel design is a matter of taste I have to agree that a lot of after market stuff is hideous. But (thank goodness) we all have different taste. You are also right about being able to add bigger disks inside a bigger wheel, which is a good argument for going to bigger wheels. I presented my argument based on all other things being equal. 

 

However, and maybe we can find out in the next while, it is my understanding that the tire is only a fraction of the weight of the rim. I could be wrong. I'm outa town for the next three weeks but if the discussion is still around by mid April I'll go down to my local tire man and get the things weighed.
