Thanks to everyone that provided help on starting my 928, finally got it
started on Thursday night by pressing the throttle all the way to the
floor, it didn't half scare me when the beast fired up and revved to the
red line!
Back on the road again, cheers

Luke -
I wouldn't panic! This seems to have been a common occurrence
lately. Discussions at a recent meet put it down to the cold weather + a
slightly under-charged battery + engine flooding.
Try trickle charging your new battery for 24-48hrs (disconnect
before & re-connect after). If it still 'hiccups' but doesn't fire up
after a couple of turns on the starter, switch off, press the gas pedal
to the floor & try starting again - it should fire up instantly.
Re:connecting your battery, its unlikely you'd have damaged
anything by re-connecting in the "wrong" order - the safe way of doing
it is:
1) connect +ve terminal
2) connect -ve terminal
(& opposite way round [disconnect -ve first] for
disconnecting/removal of battery).
The reason its safer this way is because of a danger of
'shorting' your battery: e.g. for battery removal, if you disconnect +ve
first, you could short your spanner to the bodywork from the +ve
terminal which creates a short circuit across the battery (i.e. big
sparks) if the -ve terminal is still connected (as -ve terminal is just
bolted to car's bodywork too).
Hope all goes well!

Subject: [928uk] Problems Starting my 928 GT
Well I have owned my 928 GT for fourteen months now and
apart from replacing the MAF it has been pretty straight forward
ownership (apart from being keyed in Liverpool!). Although I use the
car as a 2nd car I have tried to use it on a regular basis, but I
returned from holiday recently to fire the beast up and the battery has
as flat as a pancake. The cold/freezing weather had actually killed the
battery, so I have bought a new Bosch Silver.
The problem occurred when I connected the new battery,
the alarm/immobiliser worked and the dashboard fired up ok, but when I
turned the key the starter motor kicked in and the engine seemed to run
for a split second then died. I tried this a few times but no change,
the car has normally always started first time with no problems. Any
advice would much be appreciated. Sorry the description is not very
detailed/technical, I will try starting the car again this weekend and
post any further details on Monday.
Fingers Crossed
Luke
PS what is the correct procedure for
disconnecting/connecting the terminals on a battery because I have been
told three different ways! Can it cause any damage connecting the
terminals in the wrong order?
