[928uk] Battery

Don,
That was the reason I decided against Costco, I wanted a battery urgently and could not wait for a friend to buy it from Costco.
Not sure that the trickle charger thru the cig lighter will work, when I looked into the subject I don't think the lighter is live unless the ignition is switched on. I believe it is only a minor modification, but I am weary of messing with the electrics on my 928! From what I have heard the best way is to connect a carcoon charger directly to the battery.
Regards
Luke

Hi Luke,
Thanks for your reply, as you will probably have seen it was Jon Holdsworth who suggested Costco @ £45. I can't find a Costco store close to me and they seem to have a membership requirement (£25:00 according to their website) so I am going to have to go with Halfords. The store say the calcium type has slightly better longevity - might be important where the 928 is concerned.
I did call Dick Lovetts to get a quote on a battery from them and they said that the 928, 996 and Boxster all have a devastating effect on batteries. As the list suggests, they recommended a trickle charger operating via the cigarette lighter port, but not to expect the battery to last much more than a couple of years!
Regards,
Don.

That is the same battery specification as the Bosch Silver I have just bought for my '90 GT. Think I paid just under £70, I recall that there was a posting on the list a few weeks ago that Costco were selling Bosch Silver Batteries for the 928 for £45.

Luke

I expect this has been covered before, but I am about to buy a new battery for my 88 S4, and wondered if anyone can tell me whether a Bosche Calcium battery from Halfords (£82:00) is acceptable. It has 74 amp hour reserve and cold cranks at 680 amps.
Thanks,
Don.
