Mike, should be a non interference engine on that year, best give your local
Porsche garage a call to check, at the same time you could check the firing
order. Last year the cam shaft snapped on my 82 model. I replaced the cam
shaft + box supplied by Paul Anderson and OPC were quite helpful in
explaining how to set up the firing order. Cheers to Smiffy for setting up
the timing for me. I think the main reason I've stuck with my 82 model is
because of the fact it's non interference I can sleep easier knowing that if
the worst were to happen it's not game over, plus there's no danger of
Thrust bearing problems as the prop shaft is fixed in place with a clip :-)
god knows why they removed this on the newer models?

Subject: [928uk] 1979 cam belt... valves?
Hi All, I recently acquired, from my dad, a 1979 left hooker with a cam belt
that had slipped. He took it to his mechanic who checked fuel pump, fuel
injection etc and finally took the cam covers off to find the belt was
really loose. My dad had the car for 6 years and to be honest wanted
something with lower maintenance costs so gave it to me to try and fix. I
have just put a belt on it, got it fired up and found that it mis-fires
quite badly. Some months ago when he first had the problem Vince and John
Holdsworth kindly got back to me to suggest that on early 928s there is a
slim to no chance of trashing valves/pistons if the belt goes. Has any one
had any experience with early cam belts going? Lastly I do want to check the
firing order is still correct (the mechanic may have changed it?) I know the
firing order is 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 but can anyone tell me which cylinder is
which? Any help on any subjects will be great.
Thanks Mike Corrigan
