Evening -
At the risk of being blasphemous for the purists amongst us - I went for a universal kit of split boots which mean that you cut the old one off then clean fill and glue the new split boot - 5,000 miles later and still no probs.........I also did not have to remove the half shaft and undo the rear wheel shaft nuts (undoing these makes the crank bolt look loose!) that we S4 owners have to contend with..... the early car owners can drop the half shafts easily - we cannot!
Checked them again last service and no probs
Regards..........Andy

Hi John
If axle boots cover the CV joints on the driveshafts, these are readily available in the UK and are cheap. I paid < 50 GBP for a set (x 4 - two per side) of OEM boots with grease from Euro Car Parts. Fitting them isn't too time consuming either.

I must ask yet another question of the group, I have had a Porsche dealer mechanic tell me my water pump is leaking. Although I did not see a drop of fluid on my garage floor he states it is in the belly pan and on the front of the engine. States that a pressure check reveled that it leaks cold and seals when warm.
My question is that the pump was replaced in Aug. of 2000 and has eight thousand miles on it. Can a new pump, not rebuilt go bad this fast? The other issue that the timing belt has eight thousand miles on it but is coming into its fourth year of age and I was told to change it.
Does any of this sound fishy or not believable?
One other question I must ask is that the receipts that I received from the owner shows that the axle boots are torn and are not available and would need two axels at a huge 3100 hundred dollars. Should I ignore this issue for now and are the boots available anywhere?
Thank you so much for any help any one can give me, I hope to be able to return the favors some day.
John,
US
The only contribution I can give so far is that a strong hand spring clip works well to hold the door open if you are trying to work on or clean up the car and want the door to stay open.
