A popular modification/enhancement for the Porsche 928 is a Rear Muffler Bypass (RMB) or sports exhaust. This topic comes up often on the mail list, so we thought we might start a small section devoted to them ... send us your pics and experiences.
The RMB is typically an aftermarket and independent replacement for the rear silencer (muffler) and tailpipe. A number of different types and flavours are available/have been available from a number of suppliers and manufacturers - even Porsche themselves who provided a Tequipment Sports Exhaust for the S4 generation.
They certainly change the character of the exhaust note - most owners think for the better. Opinions vary on whether they contribute much to increasing available engine power.
In the UK Hayward and Scott, Paul Anderson and Blueflame have offerings, as well as 928gt.com and other US aftermarket providers.
This picture is of a Paul Anderson RMB for the S4 series, purchased in 2005.
Send pics of other variants to alanb@928.org.uk, and we'll build an information base - then we'll add the sound effects! |
