Sad sale Iris Blue 928S2 for spares or repair £750!
For Sale, 1986 Porsche 928 S2 Auto, Iris blue metallic spares/repair!

Details

Iris blue late 1986 S2 (S4 brakes)for sale as seen.

Owned for last 13 or so years but head gasket blown on one side and can't afford to fix her. Must go as is -no room or desire on my part to break her. 185,000 on clock; about half of those done by me relatively trouble free.

MOT till 2009. Body due for respray-usual corrosion on wheel arches and other favourite positions- nothing too serious. Running gear OK, brakes OK. Engine will start but only for 5 minutes or so. Brand new battery (£100). Tyres legal (just). A/c and cruise control not working. Taxed till end of July. The number plate has been put on retention as I thought I might reincarnate POO on another 928 sometime in the future. Looking for about £750 for the car as is.

March 2005 Porsche Post compares the 996 and the 928

Now the Porsche club GB has a large 928 following including me and many of our list participants, but its 928 content is variable and it's often caricatured as a 911 club that simply tolerates other models in the Marque. What's their verdict?

{mosgoogle} Staggeringly interesting article. I've often hankered after a 996 as a test drive I had in Park Lane Porsche Centre proved to me that it was indeed a spiritual successor to the 928. Perhaps this was because of the very similar design cues from the same design chief.

The article is balanced and I quote a couple of passages. You'll have to join Porsche Club GB to see the full article.

"Still highly desirable - you only need to look at the prices that the S4s and GTSs command - 928s enjoy a level of devotion that at times is unrivalled, their owners unfailing loyalty the equal of the most ardent 911 enthusiast"

I think this is referring to us good folk :-)

"...the 928 GTS... still looks modern and fresh today"

We knew that! "Which is the better... Neither... each is as capable as the other of providing the same basic level of performance, capability and driver satisfaction"

Theres a lot more in the article and I'll write to the club to see if I can reproduce it here.

But wow. a 1995 GTS (value circa 15k) provides the same experience as a brand new 996 (value circa 60k). I always knew we were a smarter bunch of people!
